Check ICE Custody Transfers

To find someone released from ICE custody or transferred there after Grundy County detention, keep each custodian's event separate. A county record may show that Grundy stopped holding the person, yet an immigration detainer can lead to ICE custody instead of community release. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is built for current custody, not a permanent release history. A match can identify an ICE facility. No result is less clear, so county transfer records, immigration records, and the controlling court process may all be needed.

Prove Older ICE Events

ODLS is not the right archive for an old immigration-custody event. Begin with the last durable source. A Grundy Sheriff record can establish the county receipt and transfer timestamp, disposition code, and receiving agency if recorded. A federal or immigration file may then document the handoff, placement, or later departure. The controlling court record explains legal authority in its own case but may not establish the minute of physical movement.

Formal proof therefore often requires two records. Request the county custody row for the local event and the narrow federal record for the next event. Give the full name, reliable identifiers, date range, and case or booking number. Ask for existing records, not a new explanation. If ODLS now returns no match, report only that result and search details. Do not use the absence to choose among release, removal, transfer, mismatch, or data timing.

Grundy ICE Transfer Meaning

No ICE detention center or Grundy County ICE detention contract was verified. That negative finding does not exclude an immigration transfer in an individual case. A person may be held at Grundy County Jail under county authority and then leave because another custodian takes control. The county custody row should show whether staff recorded a discharge or transfer and may name the destination.

When the record mentions ICE or an immigration detainer, do not call the Grundy departure a community release. A detainer is a request or notice connected to another authority's interest in custody. The exact legal effect depends on the case and records. The safe factual description is that Grundy recorded departure or transfer on a stated date. Add that ICE later showed current custody only when the ICE source supports it.

Source event What it proves What it does not prove
Grundy transfer timestamp County physical custody ended Community release
ICE ODLS facility match Current ICE custody shown Past county release reason by itself
No ODLS result No current match was returned Release, removal, or no custody
Court order Legal action in that case Exact physical handoff time

Search Grundy ICE Custody

Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System for current ICE custody or qualifying recent CBP custody. One search path requires the nine-digit A-number and country of birth. The other uses biographical details. Exact entries matter, especially names with multiple parts, aliases, or spelling variants.

  1. Check the county record for ICE wording or a receiving agency.
  2. Use the A-number and country of birth when both are known.
  3. Otherwise try the offered biographical search with accurate name details.
  4. Record the facility and current-custody wording from a plausible match.
  5. Confirm identity and request the source record when the event needs formal proof.

ODLS cannot search for minors. It also is not designed as a broad historic release archive. A person who once appeared can later return no result for several reasons, and the public screen may not explain which one applies.

Important: No ICE locator result cannot distinguish release, removal, transfer, a data mismatch, or a timing issue.

Grundy ICE No-Match Limits

Silence from ODLS is not release proof. The person may have been released from ICE, removed from the United States, transferred, entered under details that do not match the search, or fallen outside displayed coverage. Data timing can also matter. Avoid converting any one of those possibilities into a claim.

Return to the last confirmed event. If the Sheriff recorded a transfer, ask for the receiving agency already present in the custody record. If the federal docket or another source identifies immigration authority, preserve that exact wording. A later records request can seek an existing custody or transfer entry without demanding an opinion about current whereabouts.

A-number
An immigration identifier used with country of birth in one ODLS search path.
Detainer
A custody-related notice or request from another authority.
Transfer
A move from one custodian to another without proof of community release.
Removal
An immigration outcome that cannot be inferred merely from an ODLS no-match.

Request Grundy Transfer Records

The Grundy Sheriff FOIA route can establish the local side of the handoff. Give the full name, date of birth if known, and booking period. Ask for received and discharged or transferred timestamps, the disposition code, and destination or receiving agency if recorded. Put the request in the email body rather than requiring the office to open an outside link.

The Sheriff supplies records it holds and does not have to decide the person's present immigration status. Privacy, safety, active investigation, sealing, court orders, and other legal limits can affect disclosure. Ask for segregable nonexempt facts if part of a record is withheld.

The official Sheriff channel shown below is the county source identified in the manifest for ICE-related departure verification.

Grundy County Sheriff ICE transfer and release-record contact

It is a records and custody fallback, not an ICE locator or a rolling release feed.

ICE Release Record Chain

An ICE custody timeline often requires records from more than one office. The county log establishes when Grundy stopped holding the person. ODLS may establish a later current ICE placement. Immigration or federal records may explain transfer, release, or another outcome. A court document can establish legal authority in its case, but not necessarily the exact moment of physical movement.

Write the result as a sequence rather than a broad conclusion. For example, state that Grundy recorded transfer on the source date. Then state that ICE showed current custody at a named facility on the date checked, if it did. If the locator returns nothing, say only that no match was found with the searched details.

The Grundy County release search provides the broader custodian-by-custodian method. It is especially useful when a person may have moved through county, state, federal, and immigration authority in close succession.

ICE Records Privacy Limits

Immigration files can carry strong privacy restrictions. A request made by someone other than the subject may require authorization or may receive limited information. Use the correct agency procedure and identify only the existing record sought. Do not ask local jail staff to interpret federal immigration law or predict the next custody event.

Identity matching also requires care. An A-number plus country of birth is stronger than a common name. Biographical searches should use accurate spelling and known variants. If the match is uncertain, report it as unconfirmed. A mistaken identity can distort both the local transfer record and the ICE custody result.

No local ICE address or phone belongs in a Grundy contact card because no facility was verified in the county. The correct public entry point is ODLS, followed by the contact information supplied for a matched facility or the proper federal records channel.

ICE and Other Custodians

A person can leave ICE and still face another authority, just as a person can leave Grundy for ICE. A federal criminal case, state warrant, or local matter may create a later custody step. Keep every result tied to its source. “Released from ICE custody” means ICE stopped holding the person, not that every legal restraint ended.

VINE covers county and state custody events in Illinois, not federal ICE custody. BOP covers sentenced federal prison records, not ICE. ODLS covers the limited immigration-custody purpose described above. Choosing the right system prevents a false no-match conclusion.
